One Year On From the Keystone Pipeline Rejection

On Jan 16, 2013 12:33PM ET in Energy

So far, the goals of environmentalists who were active in blocking the Keystone XL pipeline have not been met: production from the Alberta oil sands is up over the past year, and appears to be accelerating, while other outlets for the accelerating production mean that, if Americans won’t buy it, then Canad will sell to others.

On Jan 16, 2013 12:04PM ET in Energy

Nissan hasn’t been happy with sales of the Leaf EV in the past two years, and it has become clear that major changes were needed to make the Nissan Leaf more appealing. Credit is due to Nissan then for making a massive price cut to the Nissan Leaf, lopping off $6,400 of the lowest-priced 2012 model. When combined with certain state and Federal incentives, a Nissan Leaf could cost as little as $19,000. The post NAIAS 2013: Nissan Leaf S Model Drops $6,400 In Price appeared first on Gas 2.

Five Energy Predictions for 2013

On Jan 14, 2013 02:20PM ET in Energy

Normally when I list the Top 10 stories of the year, I close the post by making predictions for the upcoming year. For 2012, my predictions were: President Obama will easily win reelection, which means that energy policies will likely continue along the current trajectory. The Keystone Pipeline project will be approved (although that decision may still slide into 2013). Natural gas prices will remain low, averaging below $5/MMBTU for the year. Oil prices — both West Texas Intermediate and Brent — will average above $100/barrel in 2012. We will look back on the fact that Newt Gingrich was once the leading Republican contender for president and have a good laugh about it. Those predictions were correct for the most... Continue»

555TES Minute S is Best Thing at Tokyo’s 2013 Auto Salon (w/ video)

On Jan 12, 2013 02:00PM ET in Energy

This little bit of automotive nirvana is the 555TES Minute S. Powered by one of Yamaha’s high-revving 250 cc motorcycle/ATV engines coupled to Toyota’s Aqua hybrid drive system, the tiny commuter promises some seriously fun urban commuting. Despite looking for all the world like one of those dynamically flawed 3-wheeled, motorcycle-tired fail-machines (I’m looking at [...] The post 555TES Minute S is Best Thing at Tokyo’s 2013 Auto Salon (w/ video) appeared first on Gas 2.
