Introduction
Many people realize that fundamental changes need to happen for the human population to sustain adequate living conditions with the resources available on the planet. It is easy to understand this at the basic level, but when we go beyond that intellectually, the sheer magnitude of the issue becomes quickly overwhelming. The depth of the problem is a roadblock for teachers, trainers and students in dealing with the issues effectively.
A specific area where quality information can be helpful is in development. Millenium Development Goal #7 includes the environment and the importance of protecting it for the livelihood of those relying on it. MDG 7, however, is often pushed aside in the name of the importance of economic development. Unfortunately, if economic development does not concern itself with environmental sustainability, those who rely on the earth to provide their sustenance (which is most of the world's poor), if the quality of it is depleted, these people will be in worse condition than before.
Global Sustainability: Cases in the Developing World is an attempt to increase the quality of information and educational materials available to professors, teachers, and trainers in the field of development. The case studies developed in this project will use real life examples to illustrate concepts of sustainability in development. In this way, today's trainers can help ensure tomorrow's development program will increasingly recognize the importance of Millenium Development Goal #7, and ensure sound environmental stewardship is part and parcel of development programs.

Project Funding
Below are the funding levels associated with the project. The project's full funding goal is at Funding Level 3, $3,300. However, if full funding is not achieved, the project will still move forward according to available fundng. The levels preseneted below (and on the website linked above) are how partial funding will help advance this project.
Funding Level 1: $2,100 Basic Set of Cases
Basic Set of CasesThis is the bare minimum level of funding necessary for this project to occur. Achieving this level of funding will provide the necessary resources to complete this website as it has been presented, including the Moldova, Poland, Turkey, and the UAE locations, representing the six separate cases identified in the case pages on the website.
Funding Level 2: $2,800 India
Funding at this level would allow for case studies of sustainability projects and environmental conditions in India. This would significantly diversify the case studies by including the sustainability issues associated with extremely dense and impoverished populations, strong colonial history, and diverse cultural heritage. These are separate issues than those that will be presented at Funding Level 1, and in this way, this funding will significantly increase the diversity of concepts presented in the cases without substantially increasing cost.
Funding Level 3: $3,300 or more
Additional focus in each locationAchieving full project funding would allow Global Sustainability to provide cases that are more fully developed and able to delve deeply into the local issues that will make each case more interesting. This will be possible with additional funding because it will provide the researcher with funding to remain in each country for longer periods of time. The additional time will not only increase the depth of the cases, but allow the researcher flexibility to develop cases incorporating interesting concepts that were not considered until met in the field.
The funding levels presented here cover only the costs of the research and general support of the researcher during the project and Fulbright Academy Conference. The researcher is completing this work on his own time and will not be paid in addition to the experience he will gain.
As a final note, the project remains in a state of development. While most of the casework locations are set, circumstances may require changes in some of the case details, and unexpected expenses or situations may alter the final product.
