 Do you want to use alternative energy to drive a cheap electric car around town but have the option for using petrol to drive longer journeys?

  Petrol costs are high, electric and Plug-in Hybrid cars are expensive but there is another way and it’s cheaper than the petrol you would have used.

  By adding an affordable battery kit to a hybrid car it can be converted to a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, a PHEV.

  A PHEV can be charged up at home or work and can achieve zero fuel usage over short trips around town, up to 30km.  If you want to drive faster and farther you will use the petrol part of the Hybrid engine. So no need for a second car for those long trips.  It is a step in the right direction and we have plans to take further steps to improve performance with new batteries and new designs.

  The idea about converting a Hybrid car in to a Plug-in hybrid car has been around for a few years.  The challenge is to bring this technology to Europe.  I have found a family run company with patented technology, with new patents in the pipeline. Together we are working to achieve certifications for the European market. The maze of EU Directives, requirements and limitations sets the guidelines for the design of the product.  This has hampered tech companies from entering the EU market due to necessary changes that need to be made to kits to comply with safety and testing regulations. The vision is within reach. Funding will go to the cost of final stage of testing and certifications. Some explanation of the technology and a working prototype can be found at www.plughybrid.de.  The final product is not the kit manufacturer described on the website but a similar kit with better performance in efficiency, heat management, battery management and distance.  Other projects are also in the pipeline for converting grid tied solar systems in to dual purpose grid tied and backup power systems.
